Your PRSA leadership is here to serve you as a member. To do that better, PRSA holds a two-day Leadership Rally each year, inviting incoming chapter presidents, presidents and section leaders to New York City to gain insights and tools. The goal is to better serve members, enhance chapter programing, increase diversity and to keep chapters financially healthy.
As president-elect for the Central Ohio chapter, I attended this year’s Rally and left inspired and excited to use the tools we discussed to strengthen our chapter. I am also so grateful to have met so many smart and energetic professionals from around the country and to learn about all of the unique things they are doing to make their chapters successful. This is an exciting time for our chapter and I’m happy to have you as a part of it.
Keynote speakers at the Rally included Richard Edleman, president of Edleman, one of the largest family-owned PR firms in the country. Drawing from Edleman’s growth over the past 60 years, Richard emphasized the importance of work-life balance and giving back to the community through volunteer PR work. After all, we are each a representative of our profession.
He also talked about the notion of “Public Engagement” and how it takes public relations beyond media relations to be the driver of conversations among key stakeholders on critical issues impacting our society. He commented on public relations having a “complexity advantage” in today’s global society that operates with diminished trust, multiple media channels and dispersion of authority. If you are not already a follower, check out Richard Edelmans’s 6 a.m. blog.
I left the Rally proud to be part of such a strong chapter and excited about gearing up for my role as president in 2012.
